It wa the capital of Hindu Shaivaite kingodom rules by the
Kakaity dynasty from the 12th to the 14th centuries. The
old name of this newly formed city is Orulallu. Oru means one and Kally means
stone.
The kakatiya left many monuments, includinf an impressive
fortress, four massive stone geteways, the Swayambhu temple dedicated to Shiva,
and the Ramappa temple situated near Ramappa Lake. Well-known rules included
Ganapathi Deva, Prathapa Rudhra, and Rani (queen) Rrudhrama Devi.
